Mining horologe in Špania Dolina
One of the most popular attractions in the village is a horologe with figurines of miners in the centre of the village.
The half-covered building of the Ferdinand shaft where our horologe is situated is located next to the famous Klopačka. It displays the model of a typical mine in Špania Dolina in the 16th century. The miners can be seen removing a rock, loading it on the mine car and pulling it through the shaft to the surface. The horologe was constructed and opened to the public in 2004.
The mining horologe opens up every hour. In order to see it in its full beauty, visitors must naturally come at the right time of the hour. To present-day visitors the sound of mining knockers offers a vivid picture of the daily background music in the valley at that time. In its upper part, St Clement, patron and protector of miners, watches over the workers.
