Spania Dolina, 728 m above the sea level, on the borderline of the Low Tatras and Great Fatra mountains, 11 km northwards from Banska Bystrica. Once famous all over Europe for the rich deposits of copper ore, nowadays a place of natural mountain beauty.
The top of the Maximilian shaft rubble dump offers a beautiful panoramic view the surrounding mountains. The sightseeing Historic Miner's track takes tourists to the shafts hidden in surrounding forests (medium difficulty sloping terrain). Mountain treks make it ideal for mountain biking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. Twenty minutes uphill walk takes you to Sachticky tourist resort where you can enjoy horse riding, indoors swimming pool and skiing, depending on the season you come. Spania Dolina's sport ground right in the village center is equipped with tennis and volleyball courts, children's playground and covered BBQ area (equipment hire service on demand).
